Piece By Peace mosaics are handcrafted by NYC based artist Anastasia
Zinkerman. Each one-of-a-kind piece is made from hundreds of hand cut
Italian vitreous glass tiles, grouted, and mounted on wood. The wall
hanging pieces include a permanent wire hanger on the back for added
convenience. The colorful tiles are opaque and semi-translucent (some
even have metallic swirls), and pickup and reflect light beautifully.
The designs are original, and are both abstract and representational.
The subject matter includes trees, moons, stars, animals, flowers, and
other organic designs.
Like
things found in nature, Anastasia strives to obtain a balance between
chaos and order in her work. The lines of the many pieces of cut tiles,
each different in its own way, are made to flow in a natural way. The
end result is visually both stimulating and soothing, and very pleasant
to live with daily. The artwork is great for drawing attention to an
overlooked wall space or tabletop. The flat pieces also work very well
leaning up against a ledge or fireplace mantle.
Anastasia
Zinkerman has worked in many different mediums, including painting,
drawing, and B/W and color photography. She graduated with a BFA from
Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University with a concentration
in painting and color photography. After graduating, she moved to NYC
and started combining the two mediums into mixed media pieces influenced
by artists such as Joseph Cornell. Anastasia 's work showed in several
galleries and museums including The Alternative Museum (NYC), Simon
Watson Gallery (NYC), Four Walls (Brooklyn), Hallwalls (Buffalo, NY),
among other group shows. After a few years, Anastasia finally followed
her heart and soul to mosaics, the medium that she feels best resembles
nature.
